Privacy
Your audio stays on your Mac.
The VolumeDirector app processes audio locally and has no analytics or telemetry. This website uses Google Analytics to understand site traffic.
Overview and scope
This policy explains how the VolumeDirector macOS app and the volumedirector.com website handle information. Their practices are different: the app does not collect or transmit personal data, while the website uses Google Analytics. VolumeDirector does not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
The macOS app
The VolumeDirector app has no account system, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting SDK, tracking pixel, or telemetry service. It contains no feature that sends app usage, audio, settings, or diagnostics to VolumeDirector or an analytics provider.
Audio processing and permissions
macOS calls the required permission “System Audio Recording.” VolumeDirector uses this access only to process an app’s audio temporarily in memory when adjusting its volume or routing it to an output. The app does not record audio, write audio to files, capture microphone samples, or transmit audio. Launch at Login is optional, requested with a one-time choice, and can be changed later in Settings.
Information stored on your Mac
The app stores the settings needed to restore your choices: stable app bundle identifiers, audio-device identifiers and names, per-app volume and mute values, preferred outputs, pinned apps, recent-app display preferences, and whether you enabled Launch at Login. These settings remain in the app’s macOS sandbox container and can be removed by deleting the app’s container.
Diagnostics you choose to share
When you select “Copy Diagnostics,” the app prepares text containing the app and macOS versions, audio-device and audio-process metadata, and current route health. It never includes audio samples. The text is copied to your clipboard and is not sent automatically. If you email or otherwise share it, that communication is handled by the service you choose and used to answer your support request.
Website analytics
This website loads Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic and improve the site. Google Analytics may receive page views, referring pages, approximate location, browser and device information, session statistics, and a pseudonymous client identifier. It may set first-party cookies such as _ga. We do not send names, email addresses, audio, app settings, or other deliberately identifying information to Google Analytics. Advertising storage, Google Signals, and ad personalization are disabled in our implementation.
Your analytics controls
You can block or delete cookies using your browser settings or use Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics does not prevent you from using the website.
Cookies, retention, and Google
Google’s _ga cookie can remain for up to two years unless you remove it sooner. Google processes Analytics data under its own terms and privacy practices, and may process information in countries other than yours. Learn more in Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Analytics data-collection documentation.
External links and services
This website links to external services, including Ko-fi and email providers. Those services receive information only when you choose to visit or contact them and operate under their own privacy policies. VolumeDirector is not responsible for their data practices.
Disclosure, security, and legal requests
VolumeDirector does not rent or sell personal information. Information may be disclosed if required by law or necessary to protect users, the public, or the integrity of the website. Reasonable safeguards are used for the website and its accounts, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children
VolumeDirector is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. Website analytics should not be allowed by a child without any consent required from a parent or guardian.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because the app sends us no data and website analytics is pseudonymous, we may be unable to connect an Analytics record to you. We will still respond to verifiable requests and explain the available options.
Policy changes
We may update this policy when the app, website, or applicable requirements change. The effective date above will be updated when revisions are published. Material changes will be described clearly on this page.
