Quick start
Get VolumeDirector from the Mac App Store, or download the DMG and drag VolumeDirector into your Applications folder.
Launch the app and choose its routing icon in the macOS menu bar.
When prompted, approve System Audio Recording. VolumeDirector processes audio in memory only.
Apps appear after they begin producing audio. Set a volume, mute them, pin them, or choose an output.
Troubleshooting
Start playback in that app. VolumeDirector shows apps that are currently producing audio, recently played audio, or have been pinned.
Make sure the output is connected, powered on, and visible in macOS Sound settings. Playback should continue through System Default while the preferred route is unavailable.
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, confirm VolumeDirector is enabled, then use “Retry Routes” in VolumeDirector settings.
A Bluetooth headset microphone can trigger lower-quality headset mode. Choose the Mac’s built-in microphone or another input if you want to keep high-quality Bluetooth output.
